ABOUT THE ARTIST
Paulo was born and raised in Manila, Philippines, where he was a corporate professional specializing in communications and marketing, a liturgical musician working with the Jesuit Music Ministry, and a superfan of musical theatre. In 2012, he left corporate life and moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music. A year later, he moved to New York City, having been offered an opportunity to attend NYU Tisch School of the Arts' Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program on a full tuition scholarship. He earned his MFA in Musical Theatre Writing in 2015.
Today, Paulo works as a musical theatre writer and liturgical musician in New York City and Jersey City. As a musical theatre writer, Paulo is working on music and lyrics for On This Side of the World, an anthology of musical monologues inspired by the Filipino immigrant experience in the United States, in collaboration with director Noam Shapiro; and book, music and lyrics for Called, a full length musical about a call center agent in Manila and her unlikely friendship with a caller from North Dakota. His work has been performed at Joe's Pub, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, the Songwriters Cabaret at the NAMT Festival of New Musicals, and more. His work his been developed by Access Theater in downtown Manhattan, where he and director Noam Shapiro were Artists in Residence, and in Musical Theatre Factory's Persons of Color Roundtable and 4X15 series.
As a liturgical musician, Paulo leads the music for three Masses every weekend as Assistant Director of Music at St. Aedan's: The Saint Peter's University Church, a Jesuit university and parish church in Jersey City, NJ, and the Sunday evening Mass at Church of the Epiphany in Manhattan
